ECOVACS DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI introduced with new roller technology

Published by Timo Altmeyer on February 6, 2025

At the beginning of the year, many manufacturers launched their new vacuum robots. This included ECOVACS, which wanted to conquer the market with its X8 PRO OMNI. A new feature is the use of a wiping roller instead of conventional mops or wiping plates.

Wiping with new OZMO ROLLER

The biggest innovation of the DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI is the wiping system. Instead of a classic mop, ECOVACS uses a rotating wiping roller that works at 200 rpm. In contrast to wiping pads, the roller is designed to ensure greater pressure on the floor.

To prevent the robot from simply spreading the dirt, the roller is continuously supplied with fresh water from 16 nozzles. According to ECOVACS, this ensures evenly clean wiping processes without re-dirtying surfaces that have already been cleaned.

The extendable wiping roller of the vacuum robot can raise the carpets by 10 millimeters.

In theory, this sounds promising, but how well the system works in practice remains to be seen. The same technology was used by the eufy S1 Pro, which performed better in some wiping tests than its competitors with a classic wiping function.

Can the robot really go everywhere?

Another problem with many vacuum-mopping robots is cleaning edges and corners. ECOVACS claims to have found a better solution here with the new TruEdge 2.0 technology. The wiping roller can extend sideways during cleaning to reach hard-to-reach areas. In addition, the side brush extends automatically to transport dust and dirt into the suction channel.

ECOVACS has also improved its navigation. The AIVI 3D 3.0 technology is designed to detect obstacles more precisely and help the robot avoid collisions with furniture or objects lying around. AI-supported stain detection analyzes the floor and ensures that particularly dirty areas are automatically cleaned.

At the same time, the vacuum robot's camera can be used for live video surveillance. Practical if you want to quickly check on your pets.

With TrueEdge 2.0, the vacuum robot extends its side brushes and wiping roller.

In addition to the hardware, ECOVACS has also worked on the operation. The new YIKO-GPT-AI is designed to understand voice commands more flexibly and communicate with the user via an instant messaging interface.

Maintenance at the touch of a button with the OMNI station

ECOVACS promises more comfort with the revised OMNI station. Here is an overview of the most important functions of the new OMNI station:

  •  Automatic detergent dosing (only in the Pro version).
  •  Mop cleaning with hot water (40–75 °C) for better dirt removal.
  •  Hot air drying at 63 °C to avoid odors.
ECOVACS DEEBOT X8 PRO OMNI round design
ECOVACS returns from the square shape of its predecessors to the classic round design.

This means that the robot should largely clean itself and maintenance should be kept to a minimum. However, how often the water tank needs to be refilled or the dirty water tank emptied remains a question of practice.

  • Hello, I'm interested in the robot vacuum cleaner and would like to ask if you've already tested it. I'm still undecided between the new Dreame, a Roborock and this one and I'm wondering which one has the better mopping function.
Thank you and kind regards, Tanja

    • Hi Tanja, unfortunately we can't answer your question because we don't have a test copy.
      LG Timo
