DJI presents the Osmo Action 6 with a variable aperture ring and larger sensor.

With the Osmo Action 6, DJI introduces a variable aperture and a larger 1/1,1-inch CMOS sensor for the first time. While the camera still targets traditional action cam users, it aims to improve its low-light performance and creative capabilities.

New 1/1,1-inch sensor with higher dynamic range

The Osmo Action 6 is the first to use a 1/1,1-inch CMOS sensor with 2,4µm fusion pixels. This makes it larger than the 1/1,3-inch sensors of its two predecessors and promises a dynamic range of up to 13,5 stops. DJI claims clearer details in high-contrast scenes and noticeably improved low-light performance.

The camera continues to record at up to 4K/120fps, while in the revised SuperNight mode the frame rate remains at 4K/60fps. A 10-bit D-Log-M profile is available for post-production, including live preview on the display.

Variable aperture from f/2,0 to f/4,0

For the first time, DJI is using a variable aperture in an action camera. While the Action 4 and 5 Pro had a fixed f/2,8 aperture, the Osmo Action 6's aperture can be adjusted between f/2,0 and f/4,0. The wider aperture is intended to improve low-light performance, while a narrower aperture provides greater depth of field in bright scenes.

In Auto mode, the camera automatically selects the appropriate settings. A special starburst mode creates star-shaped points of light under strong point illumination.

Flexible framing through new 4K Custom mode

With the new 4K Custom mode, DJI introduces a square recording format that uses 3840×3840 pixels. The footage can later be cropped horizontally, vertically, or into a square shape during editing. Previous models didn't offer this flexible approach, making the Osmo Action 6 particularly interesting for content creators.

Improved underwater features and more storage

According to DJI, the Osmo Action 6 is waterproof up to 20 meters without a housing and up to 60 meters with an optional case. An integrated color temperature sensor is designed to render underwater colors more naturally, while a pressure gauge records dive data.

DJI has retained the 1950 mAh battery capacity but claims a runtime of up to four hours. The integrated storage has been increased to 50 gigabytes.

New clip-on lenses for macro and extra-wide perspectives

DJI is also adding two new clip-on lenses to the system. A macro lens reduces the focus distance from 35 to 11 centimeters and is suitable for close-up shots of animals, plants, or detailed subjects. The FOV Boost lens expands the camera's field of view from 155 to 182 degrees and is designed for wide-angle POV shots. Both lenses are sold separately and are automatically recognized by the camera.
