The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is coming: New features, global launch and great expectations

Xiaomi is serious! According to Xiaomi's smartphone boss Lu Weibing, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be presented in February, shortly after the Chinese New Year. The big stage for the global presentation will probably be the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which will take place from March 3 to 6, 2025.

What makes the Xiaomi 15 Ultra special?

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be the brand's new flagship and it looks like Xiaomi has brought out everything that is technically possible in terms of features. I have summarized the presumed highlights:

  •  Snapdragon 8 Elite: Qualcomm's most powerful chip promises absolute top performance for multitasking, gaming and camera applications.
  •  6,73-inch 2K display: Quad-micro-curved OLED with 120 Hz refresh rate, excellent color reproduction and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the screen
  •  6.000 mAh battery: Modern silicon-carbon battery with 90 watt fast charging, 50 watt wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
  •  Leica-optimized camera system: A circular module with four sensors:
    • 50 MP main camera (1-inch sensor, Sony LYT900).
    • 50 MP ultra wide angle (Samsung ISOCELL JN5).
    • 50 MP telephoto (3x optical zoom, Sony IMX858).
    • 200 MP periscope telephoto (5x optical zoom, Samsung S5KHP9) with 100x hybrid zoom.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra Sensor Leak
A leak from our colleagues at Smartprix shows what the new camera system of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra could look like.

On top of that, there will be satellite communication. This will enable the device to communicate via dual satellite connectivity via TianTong and BeiDou satellite systems. It remains to be seen whether this function will be available internationally. But I don't think so.

Global premiere at MWC 2025?

This time, Xiaomi is not leaving any region out. According to Lu Weibing, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be launched simultaneously in all major markets. For the international release, a presentation at MWC 2025 is likely. This year, it will take place again from March 3 to 6 in the Fira Barcelona Gran Via conference center.

In addition to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the Xiaomi 15 will probably also be presented there, which has been available in China since October last year. The Xiaomi 15 Pro, which was also presented, will most likely not appear on the global market, as was the case with previous generations.

The question of how expensive Xiaomi's technology monster will be this year and how it will compare to the competition remains exciting. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra started with a RRP of 1.499 euros. It is quite possible that Xiaomi will raise the price again this year.
