Google I/O 2023: All information about the Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet

Google presented new pixel hardware at this year's Google I/O. The budget smartphone Pixel 7a (509 euros), which is available now, the foldable Pixel Fold smartphone (from 1899 euros) and the Pixel Tablet (from 679 euros) were shown.

Google unveiled the Pixel 7a at its annual Google I/O developer conference. The smartphone essentially offers the core experience of the Pixel 7.

On the outside, the well-known camera bar greets us on the glossy back, while inside there is a Tensor G2 chipset with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. The wide bezels around the 6,1-inch 1080p OLED display have been retained, but the display itself has been upgraded to 90Hz.

The camera remains the heart of every Pixel phone. Google has given the Pixel 7a a brand new 64MP f/1.9 sensor. In addition, a new 13 MP front camera with Faceunlock has been integrated.

The new budget model of the Google Pixel 7 series offers a Pixel 509-like experience at a price of 7 euros and is the most expensive device in the A series to date.

It's fair to question whether Google has struck the perfect balance between performance and price here. After all, pre-orders up to and including May 22, 2023 will receive the color-coordinated Pixel Buds A series (99 euros RRP) for free.

The highlight of the hardware presentation was the presentation of the Pixel Fold. The Pixel Fold is a book-like foldable device with a 5,8-inch 1080p OLED display on the outside and a tablet-like 7,6-inch 1840p OLED display on the inside. Interestingly, the outer screen is significantly wider than that of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which makes it more comfortable to use.

The interior display presents itself with wide edges in which the front camera has been integrated. A thoroughly pragmatic solution to avoiding an under-display or punch-hole camera. The camera configuration consists of a 48 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra wide angle camera and a 12 MP 5x telephoto zoom camera.

This device is also powered by the Tensor G2 chip, which offers future-proof 5G mmWave + Sub 6 GHz and supports Wi-Fi 6E. There is also 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

The Pixel Fold costs a whopping 1899 euros and can be pre-ordered now. As a free bonus, there is a Pixel Watch for pre-orders. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on June 28th.

 Google Pixel Tablets

Last but not least, Google introduced the Pixel Tablet. It also uses the same Tensor G2 chipset that is used in the Pixel 7 series, which in turn should provide enough performance for typical tablet use cases.

The display is a 10,95 inch LCD with 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution and USI 2.0 stylus support. There is an 8 MP camera at the front and at the back.

Combined with the accompanying charging station, the Pixel Tablet switches to so-called "hub mode" and imitates many functions of Google's Nest Hub smart displays. It can accept voice commands, control smart home devices and receive various content via Google Cast. The tablet accesses the Internet via Wi-Fi 6. There is no mobile phone option.

The Pixel Tablet Case costs 99 euros.

The Pixel Tablet starts at €679 and comes bundled with a charging stand that doubles as a speaker and allows the tablet to function as a sort of Nest Hub device when docked. Deliveries will start on June 21st.
