First impression
The Avantree DG40S supports a newer Bluetooth standard, namely Bluetooth 4.0. Bluetooth 4.0 is particularly energy efficient for both the receiving device and the device that needs to be connected if it also supports Bluetooth 4.0. To be able to use the full range of functions of the DG40, a driver CD was included in the scope of delivery, on which the software "BlueSoleil" is located. This is a so-called "Bluetooth Stack", ie a driver that has a much greater functionality than the standard Windows driver.
The range of the DG40S is approximately 50m. All types of devices can be connected, from audio devices to input devices. As an audio profile, the dongle uses A2DP, which ensures a decent sound.
By the way, Bluetooth is backwards compatible. Bluetooth 1.1-4.0 are supported by the dongle. You can also connect several devices at the same time.
Software
The included software is easy to install and also the dongle is set up almost automatically. The software also has a user-friendly interface. You simply have to select the appropriate device based on the icons, what you want to connect and the rest will be done by itself.
Avantree DG40S Bluetooth 4.0 USB Dongle
Many functions
Drivers included
Good transmission range
Comparatively expensive
The DG40S from Avantree offers a great feature set and is really easy to use. I have a Bluetooth headset connected to it and the sound quality is very good, as well as I can easily hear music in the room next door. Even a WiiMote, which often causes problems with Bluetooth, finds the DG40S easily and connects easily.
You can install the enclosed software, but you do not have to. The Windows driver also performs its services and detects the DG40S easily. What I also like is that the dongle supports secure connections, so that you can safely exchange file packets. Incidentally, the transfer rate is approximately 3 Mbps!

My PC is running Win7 Prof 64 bit. Today, 12.7.2019, tries to put the Amazon-bought DG40S into operation. There was no driver software included. I had to download the right one from the Avantree homepage. The included Avantree quick guide and available YouTube videos looked very simple; just click the setup.exe, choose the language and follow the instructions. The practice was different: the ZIP file with the original BlueSoleil software A9.2.496.11 contained after unzipping a setup.ini, 1 file folder amd64, 1 file folder x86, each with 1 Windows Installer package, also 1 empty folder Packet and no setup.exe. ,
My attempts to install with the respective .msi installers all failed with cryptic error messages in German and English. Finally, my OS crashed too. The Windows repair stated that faulty drivers were to blame. Now I am waiting for an answer from Avantree, to whom I also sent the appropriate screen shots.
